A Weekend Rental for Two in the Beautiful Hudson Valley

banner-treehouse.jpg

Private Woodland Guesthouse with Creek Access and a Piano

Step into the comfort and tranquility of our Japanese-inspired guesthouse. Set in the woods of the Shawangunk Ridge just 90 miles north of Manhattan in the beautiful Hudson Valley, Treehouse of the August Moon is the perfect weekend getaway for two, especially if you’re a pianist.

We’re off a dead-end, gravel road, down a thousand-foot driveway, with access to the Rondout Creek, Mohonk Preserve, and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. A short ramble through our property leads to a private swimming hole on the Rondout. Fishing for small mouth bass and bluegills is excellent. Tubing is a must.

Treehouse is perched over a 19th century stone foundation in the middle of 20 wooded acres, surrounded by a deck and small patio. Dappled light floods in through floor-to-ceiling glass doors, with custom-made, sliding shoji screens. Wake to the sounds of birdsong in the trees and the river 40 yards down the hill. Wild turkey, white tailed deer, red fox, herons, bald eagles and red tailed hawks are common sights.

Quality furnishings include many vintage and designer pieces. Soothing colors, original artwork, comfortable seating and bedding, and good lighting add to the overall harmony. An eclectic reading library and CD collection are provided. There’s a small, separate kitchenette with all the basic amenities. The bath has a standard tub/shower.

In the main room, there is a beautiful, 5’ 8” Mason and Hamlin grand piano, with a large collection of sheet music. It is well-maintained by a respected local piano restorer and tuner who works with the Bard, Vassar, and PianoSummer at SUNY New Paltz music departments.

The quaint village of Rosendale is only one mile away and boasts several casual restaurants and cafes, two renowned live entertainment venues, a first rate bakery, independent movie theatre, antique shops, a book store, tattoo parlor, and Perry’s Pickles. There is a bike shop nearby for rentals and a Trailways bus station within walking distance with express service to Manhattan. More restaurants, galleries, shops and entertainment are a 10-minute drive away in High Falls and Stone Ridge. The bustling college town of New Paltz is fifteen minutes by car, or a half hour’s bike ride or hour’s walk on the Rail Trail. Kingston and Woodstock are about a half hour’s drive.

Cozy getaway

We loved the Treehouse. The place is beautiful, very neat, loved the zen like theme of the interior. Barbara was a great host. The house is complete with books, variety of cds, maps, menus of nearby restaurants, tubes are available to be used in the creek, walking stick to go to the creek was very useful, beach mats and towels if you want to go for a dip. The piano was a very nice touch. Rosendale Cafe nearby is highly recommended. There are various hike trails in the area. The welcoming brownie was yummy.

Mmmm… mesmerizing, memorable, magical, mellifluous… mmmm…

The Treehouse is one of my favourite ways to recharge and refresh my soul. The tranquil surroundings and peaceful woodland setting are the perfect complement to the exquisitely furnished interior. Arrive with no more than your toothbrush - everything you could possibly need (and more!) is provided by Barbara and Ron - your diligent, thoughtful, and knowledgeable hosts. Access to the creek is an adventure in itself with sightings of speckled fawn, fox, chipmunks and a gentle dog who lives up the road. Once you’re at the waters’ edge you might get lucky and see a hawk. If not, there are plenty of birds sightings as you sit on the porch and enjoy a fragrant cup of tea ... with a yummy brownie provisioned from the Alternative Baker. If you get tired of all that loveliness then hop into bed early, cozy in between the sun-dried crisp sheets and enjoy the sound of crickets and the light show provided by the fireflies!! Magical, mesmerizing and mellifluous. Mmm ... Memorable in every way!

Great getaway

In just 48 hours, we feel refreshed and renewed! The Treehouse is peaceful and pretty, and the host pays special attention to little details that make for a great user experience - i.e., luggage rack, bottled spring water, chairs for the deck, inner tubes for the creek, brownies (yum) upon arrival. On a hot August weekend, the best part for us was access to the clear, cool creek — great for swimming, tubing and fishing (we did all three). This home is super-clean and very bright and will lift your spirits. Only warning: she means it about the tiny kitchen. It really is small. But, it’s very efficiently designed and it is possible to make any meal, as we did.

Haven in the Woods…

Thank you for a sustaining weekend away!

Treehouse is a true retreat. It is perfectly situated amidst nature’s serenity while also so close to town (side note: The Rosendale Cafe was downright amazing ! You could taste the love that goes into every dish... Trust us, we each ate two breakfasts and two dinners !! Fresh, local ingredients, savory goodness and kind and hardworking staff !). Back to Treehouse: the beautiful piano drew me in right away — thank you for such a delightful bonus! Your spatial set-up as well as your collection of books, music, and tasteful decor makes for a comforting and renewing escape. Also, my husband, always overheated, greatly appreciated the perfectly working central air conditioning. We will miss the river’s serenade and the comfort of Treehouse! Barbara, you are awesome! Hope to be back soon!
— Dana S.

Wonderful retreat!

We stayed at the Treehouse for a long weekend in May and it was a perfect romantic getaway from the the city. The house itself was so lovely and comfortable, and the property was just beautiful. Gorgeous view from every window, rain or shine! It was so peaceful and remote, but was within easy reach of great food and charming towns to explore. I couldn’t recommend it enough & hope to visit again some day!
— Alexandra K.

Love the tree house

The tree house over exceeded our expectations it is extremely clean and well maintained. I have ocd and can be very finicky but the tree house feels like home. The owners are very attentive and detail oriented. I have recommended this property to all our friends and family members especially couples with kids. The tree house is the perfect getaway for much needed R&R. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful space with us can’t wait til our next visit.
— Lucy L.

Sticky Fingers

Over three sweltering, sunny, sultry, sumptuous Treehouse weekends in July wine berries were ripe for the picking. If you’ve never had these seasonal berries then you are in for a sweet treat. Whether you gather them by the pint or devour them straight off the vine there’s one thing you cannot avoid - Sticky Fingers! I’d run across a prickly wine berry bush or two on every walk, and there’s even a bush right off the veranda of the Treehouse. No matter where you gather your wine berries their delicate sweet taste is seductive. Wild Horses couldn’t drag me away!
— Angie

Perfect and beautiful

We stayed at the house for a weekend and it was really lovely. The owner was super friendly (and left us locally baked brownies, and cider), but not intrusive. The house is spotless, beautiful and beautifully decorated, and located up the hill from a really nice part of the river. Especially for the price, this place is fabulous.

And if you’ve never stayed in the Rosendale area, you really have to check it out. Great restaurants, an awesome farmers’ market, and a short drive to gorgeous hiking.
— Kate L.

Exquisite!

I have just spent the most wonderful weekend with my daughter for Mother’s Day. The house is wonderful- and so are the surroundings.

Thank you, Barbara!

Jim & Cathy, Staten Island

This was the second time my wife & I stayed at this beautiful house. Once again Barbara was SO SO over the top on everything. We had a great time AND WILL do it again.

Beautiful Guesthouse in the Woods

My husband and I spent Columbus Day weekend in the Tree House. The listing description and photos are perfectly accurate —- except that the rental fee was slightly higher over the holiday weekend. The property is clean and beautifully maintained. We loved the views of the fall trees through the floor to ceiling windows all around the house. Barbara, the owner, was waiting at the front door when we arrived. She couldn’t have been more welcoming. She made us feel very much at home and was able to answer any questions we had. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives. Note, however, that the Tree House is only available on weekends and not at all during the winter.
— Betsy G.

Birdsong and a stream below, an enchanting place

I so very much enjoyed my stay at the Tree House. I found such peace and beauty in this woodland retreat. The cottage is large and so thoughtfully decorated, with more than a nod to Zen aesthetics, with large windows all around giving onto the woods. The quiet of the woods, birdsong in the morning, and a stream below, what more could one want? Barbara, one of the owners, was waiting for we when I arrived and is a most welcoming hostess. I already know Ulster County and Rosendale and can recommend the area for all the cultural and outdoor activities there are—and wonderful restaurants! I would love to return to stay at the Tree House in the woods someday!
— Ellen M.

Oasis of calm away from NYC

I can’t really extoll the loveliness of the Treehouse enough. The house is beautifully designed and curated, endlessly peaceful, and the surrounding area (the woods! The creek! The rail trail!) is gorgeous and serene. This was our first visit and it definitely won’t be our last!

Escape - Sung to the tune of Escape (a.k.a. "Pina Colada" song) by Rupert Holmes

If you live in New York City
And, are in need of escape
You can hop on the Trailways
To take a well-deserved break
In a small town called Rosendale
Just down the road from New Paltz
There’s a place called The Treehouse
Where Ron and Barbara are your hosts
If you like ticklin’ the ivories
Or takin’ hikes on a trail
Then a Treehouse adventure
Is sure to please without fail.
_______________

The Treehouse is wonderfully thought out and ever so carefully curated by Ron and Barbara. It’s a place to cherish, respect and seek enjoyment. Again and again. Encore!
— Rainbow Ruthie and Andy Ras Vegas

Even more beautiful in person!

Great access to the creek, with beautiful views and excellent upkeep. We loved the outdoor space, the wrap around balcony, and the layout. Seems much bigger in person! Barbara is super friendly and a great host. The bedroom was also quite huge and comfortable. Exquisite selection of literature and also close to town for many dining options. Certainly will return to the Treehouse.
— Wilber P.

Beautiful!

My wife and I just spent 2 nights for our anniversary at this wonderful get away. Everything was perfect! The owner Barbara was so easy to work with. My wife and I do plan on going back real soon. You can not go wrong with this rental.

Beautiful and Peaceful Woodland Treehouse

My boyfriend and I rented the treehouse for 5 weekends this summer, we live in Brooklyn and were looking for somewhere to swim, hike and enjoy the magic of summer on the weekends. The Treehouse was the perfect fit, it’s extremely peaceful and a beautiful setting. The Treehouse is well designed and very clean. It is within walking distance to the town of Rosendale but the property is very quiet and remote feeling, all you’ll hear are the river and birds. We loved swimming in the river and going for hikes around Ulster County. Ron and Barbara are excellent hosts, they were very consistent about leaving the house in a welcoming state with treats and well stocked with supplies. We would absolutely recommend it to any couple looking for peace and quiet with the possibility of discovering great outdoor adventures. As the description states, the kitchen is very small but there is a charcoal grill and all the necessities for making simple meals.

Excellent getaway!

Had a great two days and nights at the Treehouse. The owner was very easy to coordinate with and was helpful with any questions we asked. The house was very clean and well-maintained. It’s a perfect sized space on the inside, and we’re definitely hoping to come back when it’s a little bit warmer to take advantage of the sunken garden and river, which is only a short ramble away. The Treehouse is fully equipped with information about everything from restaurants (try the Rosendale Cafe!) to nearby hikes and other nature activities. Thanks!
— Sarah G.

Amazing Retreat

Treehouse is truly an amazing place. Absolutely beautiful views and landscape surround the house. The house is plenty spacious for two and the glass doors (which are located on every wall) make it feel even more so... The wrap around porch is perfect for morning tea and watching Nuthatches dart around from tree to tree as well as watching the early evening sun set above the ridge while the creak below supplies a soundtrack. Its location is just a short jaunt (easily walkable) from Rosendale, where one can find sundries, baked goods, restaurants and a single screen cinema.

The sounds of the natural world surround the house and sooth the soul, and a beautiful sounding grand piano resides at the house to add to the aural bliss.

Treehouse is the opposite of hustle and bustle in the best ways possible.
— David

A one of a kind escape

We had a wonderful weekend in Rosendale, and enjoyed every minute of our time at the house. The creek access and piano are the kind of unique amenities that made our stay especially lovely. The house is beautifully decorated and appointed, and the owners were a pleasure to deal with.
— Chris

Perfect escape from the city!

We had a great time at Treehouse ! The owners are welcoming and helpful, very prompt to answer all our questions. The house is beautiful and more than spacious for two. Even if the kitchen is minimal there’s everything you need to cook something simple, plus there is a great bakery (and baker !) in Rosendale as well as a cheese store, a supermarket and several nice restaurants. Access is pretty easy even without a car, and there are hiking trails and cute towns like New Paltz in the area. This was perfect for a quiet and relaxing weekend away from the city; we will probably be back!
— Aurore

Like its own little world!

The house itself is worth the trip, with full-windowed walls on three sides of the house looking out on lush woods. We kept them open (there are screens) most of the weekend to feel the breeze and listen to the sounds of the outside.

It’s located very close to a pretty little town, though you wouldn’t know it from looking out the window, which makes you feel like you are in your own, green, quiet, restful world. There is a river a short walk down a hill, which has enough current to make it fun to swim in and is close enough to still to be relaxing.

Most importantly, the owners were considerate, helpful, and thoughtful. We only wish we could have stayed longer and are looking forward to a return visit.
— Chris

Peaceful time at the treehouse

I spent Memorial Day weekend at the Treehouse and had a wonderful time. The house is elegant, and thoughtfully and tastefully furnished. The grounds are beautifu; the entrance to the river is especially nice with a long, broad & smooth rock “beach” leading into the water. It was all very peaceful, which is just what I was looking for. The owners were friendly and helpful, but gave me the space I needed.I was there mainly to meditate, but also did some hiking, biking and swimming. The house is probably a little nicer than the photos can capture. Only downside is that the kitchen is minimal.
— Gary T.

Rejuvenating Retreat

Just spent my birthday weekend at the “Treehouse” and am still feeling rejuvenated. From the soothing sounds of the river running below the property’s great rock outcroppings, to the walls of sliding glass doors (that you can cover with beautifully crafted pocket shoji screens if you want), we felt like we were in the middle of a sophisticated, woodsy retreat. We also enjoyed the balance between being “away in the woods” and also a 10-15 walk into town to grab a yummy meal or a movie.

The house is fully stocked with all you could need for preparing food in the compact kitchen area or for kicking back and reading or barbecuing. Our hosts really thought of everything.

Thank you again for sharing your place with us! And thank you for the birthday brownies and wine. We’re always dreaming of a little getaway place of our own near Rosendale, but until then, we are also on the search for the perfect place we can return to for needed breaks from our Brooklyn lives and for creative inspiration—like your Treehouse! We will definitely be back again and look forward to trying out the swimming hole when it’s warm too.
— Emily
